One studies fondly in our days the antiquated ritual of the Great Trials. They were the norm, well, say for about 2,500 years. Even Milosevic's show-trial could be considered a great trial with Judge what's-her-name, who was under strict orders to find him the ultimate foe of the people and thus justify the gutting of Yugoslavia by Nato and its major sponsor. Afterall, the system still needed a lot of work and had a long way to go. However, it was abolished just like that! And nobody even blinked twice.
The last nail on the Great Trial era's coffin seems to have been gleefully hammered in with the execution of the Saddam spawns: the rapist and the snake. Or is it murder? I haven't heard any debate on this. All I heard, amidst cries of ecstasy, is that the dynasty is finally over and that Saddam is left without successors. Only the Geneva convention was named and the hypocrisy of the US in parading the bodies. It seems that all we need to do now is find Saddam and make him eat his balls and show it live.
The counter-argument to calling the above 'murder' could be that political assasinations are sometimes a necessity, as well as being as old as prostitution. Well, indeed they have been with us forever, haven't they. Such and such pharaoh poisoned his/her brother/husband/wife/son/daughter/whole family/entire court and so on for absolute power. So and so satrap did the same, and kings did it too and so did emperors and the KGB, the CIA, the FBI, the MI6, the MI5, the Mosad, etc. etc.
So, where is the novelty, you are asking me. Or are you about to embark on the usual anti-american logodiarroea again just because you are so envious of the land of opportunity and its fantastic achievements? And you are doing it again, aren't you, you are being condescending! No, I am not. I swear. I had a great time in the States, I am having a great time with Americans over the Internet and, damn it, if there is a lesbian paradise on this earth, I saw it in New York.
The 'but(t)' is Christian America. Christian anything is hideous enough, together with Judaic and Muslim anything. But Christian America is as indigestible as pebbles served in a rust remover sauce sprinkled with broken glass. You see, the question is not whether we were better off with his sons dead. The question is that there was no judge or jury involved in the decision. Nor there will be one involved in deciding Saddam's and Osama's fate, if they are ever captured alive.
Many have fallen without a trial and many after a mockery of a trial. But never before have Heads of State of the free world (that foul tasting chewing gum of the times) gloated so provokingly at that, or shown such genuine christian pride in having caused an execution WITHOUT a trial. At best they used to keep quiet, like with Causesku and let the masses do the parading. The Ottomans used to say that fish first stinks in the head. This culture does too. Rot is seeping through and basic prerequisites for a bearable society are going to tartarus.
The next step is to adopt the full manifesto of the American Gun Lobby, arm ourselves and shoot the fool who decided to use our backyard as a shortcut. It has been known to happen in Texas a number of times and gone unpunished. Have you noticed that Texas seems to crop up from underneath every pile of excrement you try to lift?
The concept of a fair trial for all seems to have been ruthlessly executed too. Long live Jesus. Not so long ago, the Nazis (didn't they commit some of the worst genocides?) went through their trial and no civilised entity uttered publicly that it would be a waste of resources or an anathema to the victims not to. And here we are now. No effort to bring the beasts alive to justice. Doesn't even cross the mind. The worst thing is that there is no argument either way.
Christian paranoia has won game, set match. 'Thou shalt not kill' co-habitating together with 'an eye for an eye' in the old book and 'turn the other cheek' coupled with 'the anger of the Lamb' in the new book, have finally blown the fuses. It took it long enough, though! I am so proud of us.
Maybe in 3001 lucky humans will be talking about demented ancient religions that produced some great art up to a certain time point but then, when their fucked-up moral message was let loose after the past was forgotten, they caused such severe mental shortcircuit that all the muck and filth that humans are capable of came to surface. And some fragile, treasured institutions that kept evolving so painfully slowly, like a justice system for all and sundry, were flushed down a Texan toilet. Back to lynching now.
